PEOPLES MEDICAL COLLEGE NAWAB SHAH (PMC).
The exclusive medial college for girls Nawabshah came into existence in April
1974 and named as PEOPLES MEDICAL COLLEGE, updated about 3500-lady doctor has
been graduate.
Initially, the college was temporarily housed in portion of District Council
High School consisting of a couple of hostels and an auditorium (9-Latif Hall)
along with the main building of Muslim Boarding House. The first batch admitted
with an approximate enrollment of about 200 students. Soon after the District
Hospital was attached to the college for the purpose of clinical teaching.
The college was since then made to progress in different phases, many more
buildings having been added both to the college and the attached hospital.
Basic department
Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Community, Medicine
& forensic medicine.
Clinical department
Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology,
Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Chest Diseases, Psychiatry, Dermatology,
Neurology, Radiology (Ultrasonography / C.T. Scanning), Neuro Surgery, Urology &
Nephrology.
The total number of students at present is 900 from first year to final year
MBBS class. On the teaching faculty there are 17 sanctioned posts of professor,
20 Associate Professors, 44 Assistant Professors, 15 Senior Registrars & 58
demonstrators. The professional examinations of MBBS Degree were separated from
LUM&HS & CMC in 1995 and since then there are held regularly as per prescribed
schedule with the addition of Essay & MCQ. At present the College is affiliated
with Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences Jamshoro.
Residential facilities
The college has five hostel blocks (A to E) having a capacity to accommodate 800
students with all necessary facilities & amenities.
College library
The existing two-storied library has at present about 10,000 reference books and
35,000 test books and various new editions of medical journals. Yet another new
& more spacious (2 storied) library building has been recently built up which
will cater to the needs of under graduate & postgraduate students. Lending
facilities are also available. Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is also
established with internet and Medical CD's & Multimedia facilities.
Transport facilities
The college has one Bedford Bus, two Mazda Busses, which are used for daily pick
& drop of the local students as well as for the Excursion/study tours of the
students.
Miscellaneous facilities
The college campus is a secured are as has spacious well-manicured lawns for
various students' activities. The main auditorium (Latif Hal) with seating
capacity of 500 persons is presently being utilized for curricular &
extra-curricular activities. For students sports there is a Gymnasium, Badminton
Court & Basket Ball Court. A new double storied "Student Visitor's Compartment"
has also been constructed recently. Other necessary facilities like Mess /
Canteen, Shops, Bank, Post Office, PCO, Telips Booths are also available within
the College boundary.
Attached hospital
The attached People Medical College Hospital have total bed strength of 870 at
present. The Hospital is equipped with most of the modern equipment and medical
gadgetry. There are three Centrally Air-Conditions Operation Theaters. Old and
New OPD cum casualty blocks are consisting of Medical, Surgical, Paeds, ENT,
Eye, Gynae: & Obs:, Chest, Cardiology, Skin, Psychiatry Neuro Surgery, urology
Pediatric Surgery & Nephrology OPDs with the facilities of Radiology
Ultrasonography, C.T. Scanning and have well organized Pathological lab to cater
all modern diagnostic findings.
