Second Shift OPD at SGH Korangi-5

The first evening OPD in Sindh Government hospitals was inaugurated at Korangi 5 here today by the Health Secretary Dr. Fazlullah Pechuho.

Government of Sindh has declared emergency in health sector. Health Department has taken a number of initiatives that include hiring on 4700 government doctors against vacant positions following the Chief Minister's announcement in August 2016. The acute shortage of healthcare practitioners in the hospitals was not only causing inconvenience to patients but also putting an extra load of work on the doctors who are available.

Starting second shift OPD is continuation in the same direction to improve the health services provided in the government hospitals. This is the first non-stop OPD from 8am to 10pm at Sindh Government Hospital Korangi-5.

The government plans to introduce the double shift OPD al all government hospitals. This is a major step of the government to make the hospitals functional round the clock and would provide the much needed relief to poor parents when the father comes home in the evening and then has to take sick child to Emergency Room or a private clinic. Currently, the government hospitals function only during the office hours, however emergency services are available round the click. Introduction of second shift OPD would help ease the suffering of the sick especially those belonging to the lower strata of the society.
