Precaution for Heat Waves

Reference: Pakistan Meteorological Department, Government of Pakistan

Wiht the reference quoted above, the Meterological Department, Heat Wave Early Warning System, Government of Pakistan has issued Heat Wave Alert-1 "Met Office informed that a heat wave is likely to grip the Karachi city during 1-3 May 2019. Day maximum temprature would range in 40-42 C during the period. Wind flow will be from North / Nortwest during day times. The Authorities and all stakeholders are requested to take precautionary measures and keep them abreast for update from Met Office."

Keeping in view of above, you are requested to implement / ensure following preventive measures and take preemptive measures to address any emergency:

1. Implementation of 24/7 emergency in all hospital and Health facilities
2. No leave shall be allowed to any medical and paramedical staff during above mentioned days
3. Increase medical and paramedical staff where needed accordingly
4. Ensure availability of all essential medicine along with I/V drip, cannula, ORS for managing heat wave affected patients
5. Establish special wards for managing heat stroke cases in emergency with availability of air conditioning, ice, generators and water supply etc. in order to ensure time and effective management strategy
6. Provision of 24/7 well-equipped ammbulance service for transportation
7. Conduct health awareness campaign among masses on taking precautions regarding heat stroke
8. Submit daily report, up to 4:00 PM, to this office for onward transmission to higher authorities
